Domestic violence was a factor in more than a third of the murders that took place in Wisconsin in 2010. Violence prevention advocates say the downturn in the economy played a major role in many of those deaths.

When the money gets tight, tensions in family relationships can rise and victims of abuse have fewer options for escaping from violent relationships.

That?s the story the most recent numbers on domestic violence homicides tell, according to Patti Seger, the director of the Wisconsin Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
