Women's golf team finishes ninth
Nicole Vandermade shot an even-par 72 to tie for ninth place and lead the Texas women's golf team to ninth place in the UCF Challenge in Sorrento, Fla., in the Longhorns' spring debut. Auburn won the team title and the Tigers' Victoria Trapani was the medalist. UT's Madison Pressel (74) tied for 32nd, and Katelyn Sepmoree (74) and Haley Stephens (73) tied for 43rd.

Barca and Lyon win in knockout phase
Lionel Messi scored his 38th goal of the season to put defending champion Barcelona on the verge of the Champions League quarterfinals following a 3-1 away win over Bayer Leverkusen in the first leg. In the only other match, Alexandre Lacazette's goal gave Lyon a slight edge against APOEL Nicosia.
Scottish champ Rangers bankrupt
Scottish champion Glasgow Rangers was forced to seek bankruptcy protection, triggering a 10-point deduction for the 140-year-old club and effectively handing the title to crosstown rival Celtic. The Union of European Football Associations has been warning about the perils of rampant overspending in soccer, revealing last month that the combined debt of leading European clubs exceeded $10.5 billion. Rangers was forced into administration over tax debts of 9 million pounds ($14 million) accrued in the nine months of Craig Whyte's ownership.

Woods to return to Honda Classic
Tiger Woods is returning to the Honda Classic for the first time since he was an amateur. Woods will play the Match Play Championship next week in Arizona, followed by the Honda Classic and the Cadillac Championship at Doral.

IndyCar drivers foresee safer sport
With IndyCar still recovering from Dan Wheldon's death, series officials said double-file restarts will be scrapped at Indianapolis, Texas and Fontana and more changes to improve safety could be announced before next month's season opener at St. Petersburg. IndyCar CEO Randy Bernard didn't provide hints about what other announcements are pending.

Sports minister says Spain has problem
Spain's sports minister acknowledged that the country has a doping problem that needs fixing after its record in the fight against drugs came under scrutiny with Alberto Contador's ban from cycling. Jose Ignacio Wert said Spain needed to improve its record "to gain credibility" in the eyes of international bodies.
