Amy Winehouse left trove of unreleased music (AP)

LONDON ? Amy Winehouse left a trove of unreleased music, but no decision has been made about whether it will be released, people close to the singer say.

The soul diva, who had struggled with drug and alcohol addiction, was found dead of unknown causes at her London home on Saturday. She was 27.

Spokesman Chris Goodman said Thursday that Winehouse left behind "plenty" of material, but there have been no discussions yet about releasing anything.

It's not clear how finished the tracks are. Winehouse released only two albums in her lifetime, but had been in the studio sporadically over the past few years. In July 2010 she said a new album would appear within six months, but it was never finished.

The Guardian newspaper on Thursday quoted an unnamed spokesman at record label Universal as saying Winehouse had left the "framework" of about a dozen songs.

Producer Salaam Remi, who worked on both Winehouse albums ? "Frank" and "Back to Black" ? and was involved with her new material, told New York's Power 105.1 radio station that there were not large amounts of finished material, and Winehouse's estate had yet to approve the release of anything.

"We had a lot of things going, there are recordings, but first things first, I think," he said. "We're trying to focus on what's at hand and what her family wants to do."

There would certainly be an appetite for new material.

Sales of Winehouse's music have soared since her death. In the U.S., digital sales of her tracks have risen by 2,000 percent in the past week, according to Nielsen Soundscan, and "Back to Black" is set to re-enter the Billboard album chart at No. 9.

Britain's Official Charts Company said it looks like Winehouse will have seven songs in this week's top 40, which is announced Sunday.

Music critic John Aizlewood said posthumous releases can help cement an artist's legacy ? or, if mishandled, do the opposite.

"The record company is there to tend the musical legacy," he said. "If they put out something that is obviously substandard, it will negate that legacy."

He cited the example of Jeff Buckley, who drowned in 1997 having released just one album, the highly praised "Grace."

"Since he's died he's put an awful lot of stuff out," Aizlewood said. "I don't think it's particularly enhanced his standing. It was the same with Jimi Hendrix ? once he died, he really started releasing records. And most of them were appalling.

"It's such a dangerous area to start finishing unfinished music."

One track that should see the light of day is a version of pop standard "Body and Soul" that Winehouse recorded in March with Tony Bennett for a forthcoming duets album.

Some say Google+ is a Facebook killer and others say, "what's Google plus?" After a few weeks, 20,000,000 people have signed up to be a part of Google's next social networking experiment. I say experiment because Google Wave, a service that's now a part of Google+, was supposed to be the next big social network. But there were seeds of success harvested from Google Wave that just sprouted into their next social networking site experiment. Even though Google Wave was a misfire, it brought greater attention to other services like Gmail. Twitter users will like Google+'s expanded character support, link embed and integrated photo tagging. People using Google's Android mobile operating system and Twitter will enjoy sharing content quicker than they thought possible.

Gmail continues to be the Google service that people flock to because of its ever=expanding cloud storage and it simply works. Once such improvement is how it learns who you read emails from and prioritizes those messages closer to the top of your inbox. Google+ has something similar. Each time a user comments on a popular post, it moves it to the top of the user's stream.

To be successful on Google+ might mean posting relevant and engaging content on your stream. Also, create circles of people that will engage more so than they might on Twitter or Facebook. Being able to do this in real time would greatly change how people would then utilize circles. Circles would then become larger than they are today and run up against the 5,000-member limit.

Google+ will not be the same network in six months or even a year. Technology writers are talking about the roll out of Google Games. Games are a reason why Facebook is number one. Another big reason why Facebook is so big is that it allows the uploading of images for free. Flickr, Yahoo's online photo service, allows a rolling 200 images for free, unless you pay $24 a year for unlimited storage. Google+ made the smart initial step of integrating Picasa Web photos and allows certain sized images to be stored for free, on top of what is in your account.

Just like with any social networking site, signing up is the first step. The second is to setup your profile, including a good photo and description. There is a section on your Google+ profile to include links back to anything you want to be associated with. I included my Twitter profiles, business Facebook page, YouTube channel and other photo sharing sites. Next, set your privacy settings to display people in your circles and who have included you in their circles. Add people to your circles, create new circles for people and brands, and then start making comments on other people's posts. This will get people interested in checking out your profile and if you are lucky they will add you to a circle of theirs.

People that are familiar with sharing links and other content on services like Facebook or Twitter will find it easy to do it on Google+. While looking at your stream on a desktop web browser, click into the box at the top with the icons of a camera and link. Clicking on this box will make it larger and then click on the link icon. Put in a link to be attached to the post. After attaching the link, it will display a photo and a description of the destination. The photo can be changed, if there is more than one from the website and you are able to remove the description. I like to leave the description in, so people visiting the link know ahead of time where they will be going.

The Google+ app for the iPhone and the Android mobile operating system from Google make it easier to share the most up-to-date and relevant content. People that have good Twitter lists or are following them will be able to share relevant content more easily on their Google+ stream. After several days of testing, I have found that the easiest way to share content to Google+ while mobile is with the Twitter client Seesmic. Find a Twitter list of content you like, tap on the Tweet, then tap the share button on the top right with two arrows facing up. Select Google+ as the option to share to. For now, this action will create a lot of extra characters in the post. Remove the extra text before the text from the Tweet and after the link. This will create a nice post for quick consumption on your stream. Check to make sure the circle you want the post to be visible to is selected and then tap post. Posting Tweets, while using an iPhone or iPod touch, is done differently. Find the Tweet you want to share, tap to copy it and then open the Google+ app. Create a post by tapping the pencil icon on the top right. Paste the text in the larger box, select the circles you want the post to be visible to and then tap post.

With 200 million users on Gmail and 20 million on Google+, we are already seeing a shift in people getting excited about the next big social network experiment. This new social network is here to stay and will become much larger. Google+ is growing quickly and that means developers are getting excited to create tools for integration. As soon as Google details ways these developers can create tools people will find interesting, more users will sign up on the service. Google+ Games is a future feature to watch, as it could create a revenue stream for Google and game developers. Spain's embattled premier calls early elections (AP)

MADRID ? Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero on Friday announced early general elections in November, scheduling the race four months earlier than anticipated to give his Socialist Party a better chance to stay in power amid growing outrage over the nation's economic woes.

Zapatero set the election date for Nov. 20 even though he was not required to call elections until March and had resisted repeated calls by the conservative opposition for early polling.

"I want a new government to take control of the economy from January 1st next year," said Zapatero, who announced earlier this year he would not seek a third term.

"It is convenient to hold elections this fall so a new government can take charge of the economy in 2012, fresh from the balloting," he said.

The early elections are expected to help the Socialist Party candidate, Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba, Zapatero's former Interior Minister. While the Socialists have trailed Popular Party candidate Mariano Rajoy, a poll released Wednesday suggested they are closing the gap.

The miserable state of the economy is the single largest concern in Spain ? hours before Zapatero's announcement, ratings agency Moody's warned it could soon downgrade the country's credit rating.

Investors are asking for higher rates to lend money to Spain, raising fears that it could be next in Europe to require a rescue package.

And a nationwide malaise has set in, with highly educated young Spaniards dumbing down their resumes because they are overqualified for what jobs are available ? and increasingly looking to move abroad as unwilling expatriates.

The country's biggest international companies, including telecommunications firm Telefonica SA and Banco Santander SA, are increasingly relying on branches in booming Latin America while their Spain businesses dwindle.

"The only solution is to leave Spain, but that is a shame," said 25-year-old Monica Lopez, a college journalism graduate forced to work in a low level administrative post at a debt collector's office before she was laid off. "I am completely fed up.

The discontent is due not only to unemployment ? at a eurozone-record of 20.9 percent ? but also the austerity cuts enforced by Zapatero in the hope of reassuring markets that Spain can avoid needing a rescue package like neighboring Portugal.

The government lifted the retirement age to 67, hiked taxes, cut wages for public sector workers like teachers and police and forced mergers of troubled banks holding billions in unpaid mortgages.

Large anti-austerity protests have mushroomed around the country in recent months, mainly from young demonstrators ages 16-29 who face a stunning 35 percent joblessness rate.

There is not doubt the Socialists are under pressure. They hold a minority in Parliament, have just barely managed to rule through alliances with a handful of small parties, and were trounced in nationwide regional and municipal elections in May.

Rajoy claimed the announcement as a victory for himself, insisting Spaniards have had enough of the economic policies of Zapatero and his administration.

"Early elections are what the majority of the electorate wanted, so this is good news," Rajoy said.

Rajoy isn't expected to map out his campaign platform on the economy until September, but has said he favors labor reforms beyond what Zapatero has pushed through to try to help small and medium sized businesses start growing again. He said he has no intention of making further cuts to Spain's social welfare system and would govern from the center, but offered no details.

New polls showed that early elections are "the least bad" moment for Zapatero's party to try to retain control, said Ramon Cotarelo, a political science professor at Spain's Open University.

Adding to Spain's economic woes, Moody's warned Friday it may downgrade Spain's credit rating because of the country's weak economic growth prospects and high debt.

The move was a further sign that last week's bailout of Greece has not ended fears of debt crisis contagion elsewhere in Europe. Spain has the eurozone's fourth largest economy, and many economists say Europe can't afford to bail out the country.

Moody's said funding pressures on Spain are likely to increase following last week's bailout package for Greece, which has set the "precedent" of asking the private sector to take some losses on their investments in government bonds. Banks are being asked to rollover and swap their Greek debt holdings in an effort to relieve the burden on the country.

Moody's said Greece's second bailout package "has signaled a clear shift in risk for bondholders of countries with high debt burdens or large budget deficits."

Spain is struggling with the aftermath of a collapsed real-estate boom, and experts are predicting years of sluggish growth ahead. Though Spain's debt burden is not as high as Greece's, the country has a fairly sizable budget deficit, which requires constant funding in the bond markets.

The cost of borrowing for that funding has increased sharply in recent weeks, and continued to rise after last week's Greek deal, which was also aimed at easing pressure on the larger economies of Spain and Italy.

Parts of North Korean land mines wash up in South (AP)

SEOUL, South Korea ? Parts of North Korean land mines washed down a swollen river into South Korea, and troops searched for other mines that may have been dislodged by deadly landslides and flooding that has stricken the peninsula.

Two wooden North Korean mine boxes were found in a river in Cheolwon on the South Korean side of the Demilitarized Zone. The boxes were empty, the detonators and explosives believed to have been lost in the current, a Defense Ministry official said Friday.

Soldiers were searching the area for other North Korean mines, said the official, who requested anonymity based on department rules. He said accidental dislodgement was suspected rather than North Korea intentionally sending the mines downstream.

North Korean mines have floated south on river currents in the past. Dozens of wood box mines swept south after heavy rains last year, killing a South Korean and injuring another.

There were fears, too, that South Korean land mines may be buried in the debris of a deadly landslide in Seoul.

The mines are a reminder of the continued danger of war on the Korean peninsula. The DMZ is heavily mined, but South Korea has also buried the weapons over the years mainly to defend military installations.

Some of those mines were planted decades ago at Wumyeon Mountain in southern Seoul, where a landslide on Wednesday killed 16 people. Most of the mines had been removed between 1999 and 2006, but 10 mines have not been accounted for, officials said.

About 140 South Korean soldiers gripping metal detectors searched for land mines on Wumyeon Mountain and around South Korean army installations near the border to prevent them from harming people.

Torrential downfalls since Tuesday have severely disrupted life in Seoul and its surrounding areas, submerging streets filled with idled cars, flooding subway stations and forcing businesses to shut. At least 50 people have been killed.

Weather conditions greatly improved Friday with little rain, a welcome relief from days of downpours. Traffic problems eased and many people returned to homes. In Gyeonggi province near Seoul, some searching was still going on for bodies or possible survivors, though most efforts focused on cleanup.

The official death toll of 50 does not include 11 other people who died in accidents amid the rains that emergency officials say were caused by negligence. They cited a man who was drunk and went swimming in the floodwaters and drowned.

Heavy rains also pummeled North Korea, destroying homes and buildings, state media have reported in recent days.

The Korean Central News Agency said late Friday that the country is suffering "seriously" from flooding, with more than 1,605 acres (650 hectares) of cropland flooded in North Hwanghae province and roads, houses and public buildings destroyed.

"A detailed survey is now under way and necessary measures have been taken to recover from the damage," the report said.

North Korea is particularly susceptible to damage from flooding due to poor drainage and widespread deforestation, according to agronomists.

Review: No evidence of cancer-9/11 exposure in NY (AP)

NEW YORK ? Ground zero residents and first responders sick with cancer will continue to be excluded from receiving help from the federal government program created to aid victims of the Sept. 11 World Trade Center terror attacks until at least 2012.

A federal review of scientific evidence, required under law and published Tuesday, supports keeping cancer off a list of Sept. 11 health problems including asthma, interstitial lung disease and mental illnesses such as post-traumatic stress disorder.

Some first responders and people who lived near the lower Manhattan site on Sept. 11, 2001, believe their cancer is connected to the cloud of toxins that bloomed from the destruction of the 110-story WTC twin towers. But the review, by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, determined that "very little" evidence had been reported on the link between the massive toxic cloud and cancer.

"Insufficient evidence exists at this time to propose a rule to add cancer, or a certain type of cancer," to the list of diseases that qualify for aid under the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, the report said.

The report said only one peer-reviewed article was published on the subject in 2009 and two others were based on models to estimate the risk of cancer.

"These limitations in the exposure assessment literature make scientific analysis of a causal association between exposure and health effects, such as cancer, quite challenging," it said.

Telecommunications worker Richard Dambakly, who moved from New York two years ago and now lives in Hampstead, N.C., said he worked for four months at ground zero and later was diagnosed with blood cancer. He called the review "nonsense."

"I have to tell you I'm not happy about it," said Dambakly, 49, adding that he had no medical insurance. "You don't have to do research to know people have gotten sick from working there. I know I got sick there."

U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., called on the director of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health to accelerate research and data collection to examine the links between cancer and exposure to contaminants at ground zero.

U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., called the report "premature."

"So many people have gotten such rare cancers ? and at young ages ? that it seems obvious there must be a link," he said in a statement.

The Zadroga Act, named for a police detective who died at age 34 after working at ground zero, was created to aid those who were sickened. It guarantees that those facing health problems related to Sept. 11 will be monitored by doctors and receive treatment at least until 2015. It also requires the administrator of the World Trade Center Health Program, established by the act, to review medical evidence to determine if there is reason to add cancer to the list of diseases covered.

The next review will be conducted in early to mid-2012.

"We think there are real problems with this plan," said Jordan, who heads the Republican Study Group. He argued that the spending cuts are insufficient and expressed opposition to likely tax increases.

"If I had to vote right now, my vote would be no," said Rep. Steve Southerland, R-Fla.

The conservative challenge came just hours after House Majority Leader Eric Cantor told rank and file to stop grumbling as he sought to rally lawmakers for the Boehner plan.
